Clarity

This is actually two different shots of a guitar put together. One side of the guitar has different objects on top of it (layered using the photogram process) and the other side is clear. The guitar fills up the frame but the neck of the and the very end are cut off as they go out of the frame. The lines of the guitar are very clear and there are slight shadows that are apparent just underneath the curve. There is much more texture on the left side of the photo as well as the portion of the ground that is seen. The contrast is very high within the left panel but is apparent throughout. I think that the words fit with the image. Where it is mentioning insanity, there are many different crazy aspects happening on that side of the photo. And where it mentions clarity, the image is clear and clean. I think the picture is representing that even in the most insane moments, music can prove to be a clearance point. It is available to anyone and everyone and can help in many different situations. The words seem a bit harsh against the otherwise plain black and white image, The words are also in a font that does not directly fit the more modern guitar.

Nature's Medicine

The first photomontage was a multiple exposure. This meaning two different shots were taken within a single frame of film. This image gave off a mirroring effect as the subject was looking at herself against a fence. The right subject was significantly lighter than the subject on the left. This image was also to-scale in the terms that both subjects and the fence were not distorted as far as size. This picture gave off a more serious tone as both of the subjects were not smiling and were looking towards each other with straight faces.
The second photomontage was a combination print. This meant that one part of the image was blocked out while the other was exposed on the paper and vice versa. This picture was much more lighthearted as the subject was laughing and smiling brightly. The picture was overexposed in the bottom left corner where the sun hit the tree. In this image the subject was placed over top of the tree, creating a textured background. This image was slightly distorted because the tree was enlarged significantly, making the subject appear small against the tree.
Both of these images had a low contrast. They both, however, had shadows from the way the sun was positioned; this creating the majority of the contrast. In both photos it was apparent that the darkest colors were on the shorts she was wearing. These images also shared the same main subject. Both located outside and using the same girl, almost making them relate together.

Interest in Placement

I created this project with the idea of placing common household items, in not so common places. The idea was to spark interest in the things commonly passed by in a home by putting them in a place that would make you stop and check again.

"But I Love You"

18.5" x 20.5"

created wooden frame, spray-painted black, canon digital camera, cardboard back piece

This project is depicting an abusive relationship. A common aspect in each picture is her black eye, meant to symbolize the more physical side of the abuse. The words that were written on her arms are meant to show the internal thoughts a woman could have in this type of relationship. The way that she was positioned in front of the brick wall gave the image a lot of texture. Also the way her blue jeans matched the color of the door. I think this project was created with an intent to bring attention to abusive relationships, specifically where the woman is being attacked. I think that the window-like frame is allowing you to "look into" this couples life and how the subjects react to the relationship.

I Think I Lost My Other Boot

hand tinting print

The hand tinting process was incredibly long and drawn out but was an interesting experience. I personally would not select to do this particular process again because I found it was extremely frustrating to blend the colors together in order to get the correct shade needed to accurately portray the original photograph. Nevertheless I am happy with the way my prints turned out in the end.

Train Headed to a Dead End

photo lithography

This particular process was very different from anything we have done before. I love the effect that the Lith chemicals gave to each print. Even though the process took some time I would recommend for other people to try this method if they want their photo to have a very textured aged look.

Dog or Teddy Bear?

lith film

I enjoyed this process a lot. I thought that being able to create a transparency from what seems like a normal piece of photo paper was incredibly interesting. Though you can't really see what the image is, it's a transparency photo of my dog with a background of a textured piece of cloth. I liked the way that the brown cloth was able to bring out the actual brown color of my dogs fur.
